My family started visiting Maine in the early 90’s, spending most of the time in the Rangeley Lakes area. Two of our sons learned to fly fish from a wonderful Maine Guide. They carry their love for the sport to this day from their experiences in the western mountains of Maine, and now teach their own children (our five grandchildren) on annual visits to Toddy Pond. My wife, Rita, and I grew more in love with Maine, always dreamed of having a home on a pond where we could hear the loons, and ultimately decided to retire to Maine. We both had careers in the Washington DC area and raised our family in Springfield Virginia. We started our search for a summer place on a lake and, in 2014, found our place on Toddy Pond in Surry. In 2016, we decided to live year-round on Toddy Pond. We both feel so blessed to live here on the pond, and have found community in both neighbors and the local towns. I find plenty to do on and around the pond, volunteering for the town of Surry, and as a mentor for the local Restorative Justice Program. I plan to do more in the water quality area for Toddy Pond, and continue with volunteering on the Courtesy Boat Inspections. I also want to help out wherever I can in the transfer of ownership of the dam. This holds the future for continued recreational enjoyment, environmental protection for wildlife and all we hold dear to us as we enjoy our lives on Toddy Pond.
